about

Ontologia nemara or SOAAMS / Sonic Ontology of the Artificial Aquatic Micro Spaces, is a long-duration listening & soundscape research, that takes the sonic record of particular micro space as a starting point in intuitive electro-acoustic composing (with simple acts & by re-imagining the space-time geometries through the means of music & mnemopoetics).

SOAAMS resonates toward recognizing sonic imprints of the memory of the space that can be found (sensed) through listening & prolonged observation.

Two tracks evolved from: 1) hydrophone recordings of the Nitra river, main channel passing through the town of Nitra, Slovakia; also 4m depth recording of the Bešenovo Lake, long time abandoned marl quarry situated on the slopes of Fruška Gora in North Serbia. 2) Oasis lake under the Avala mountain outside of Belgrade, ex-military compound with abandoned draining system that produced small artificial lake & the network of forest creeks.

Other field recordings used as a sonic simulacrum for compositions are bringing places & their memory imprints together in a bouncing interaction. From oak leaves caught in a breeze gliding down the Avala mountain in suburbs of Belgrade, to walking over different surfaces in Korčula island (South Adriatic) as well as in Silba island (North Adriatic).

Some time ago I started “submerging my ears” in artificially imposed aquatic micro spaces, mostly spaces left behind after a wide spectrum of human activities – from urban & industrial developments to personal (even unintentional) interventions. Spaces abandoned out of neglect, and handed over to nature as it is, to conquer & harvest distinct bio diversities. This (un)common phenomenon builds the Third Landscape, as defined by Gilles Clement, French botanist & entomologist.

“Compared to the territories submitted to the control and exploitation by man, the Third Landscape forms a privileged area of receptivity to biological diversity. The variety of species in a field, cultivated land, or managed forest is low in comparison to that of an “unattended” space. From this point of view, the Third Landscape can be considered as the genetic reservoir of the Planet, the space of the future...”

Their accidental existence opens the discussion about possible ontology of false human creation, that inevitably self-develops conditions for symbiotic & other cultures to root & evolve. Observance of these semi-artificial environments, through the means of sonic ecologies, is revealing this situational concept of creating life out of error & brings forth the understanding & acknowledgment of our silent dependence on them.
